We see plenty of content on TV, social media, advertisements, etc. about becoming healthier; but, what exactly does “becoming healthier” mean? Unfortunately, definitions of health and wellness can range anywhere from vague to completely complex descriptions – and, depending on who is discussing the topic, it can include language that makes you feel as if achieving better health and wellness is an unattainable and miserable task (ex: “You must eat like this.” “Shred as much body weight as fast as you can!”)
Quite frankly, I do not like how discouraging health and wellness messages can seem!!!!
From a holistic perspective, wellness is personal. I believe that it is most important for you to come up with your own description of what it means to be healthier as well as what it means to work towards wellness. Remember, wellness is an ongoing journey that will evolve as you move forward in your life. An important part of this journey is taking ownership of your ability to create healthier habits to meet whatever wellness vision that you have set for yourself. Today, you may have a wellness goal of becoming more active and in a year, you may have a wellness goal of spending more time with your family and building community – both are great wellness goals to have!
Often times, it may be difficult to figure out the best ways to work towards better health and wellness – and this is completely okay. There are many professionals, myself included, who find joy in helping others find their wellness vision and navigate through their wellness journey. By taking the proper steps to discovering what wellness means to you and developing a plan to achieve said wellness, you are already on the right path.
Vision Board Activity:

Vision Boards can be wonderful tools in helping us develop our wellness vision. There are a few websites that can help you create a digital vision board (a simple google search will help you find these. I personally use Canva) or you can physically create these boards with various items (paper, photos, stickers, markers, glue, scissors, etc. – think art class!).
The purpose of this vision board is to focus and create a clear image of what your wellness vision is. Find different pictures, words, symbols, etc. that illustrate the wellness goals that you have. *Remember setting small goals will help you reach your bigger picture.* Once you have found the images that best represent what your wellness vision is then it is time to arrange and secure them onto your vision board. Once you have crafted your board, then it is important to place it somewhere that you can easily see it, daily. By looking at your vision board, you are provided with motivation to keep pursuing your wellness goals. Vision boards can be as simple or as elaborate as you want – remember this is your visual representation of your wellness vision!
